The Vice Provost Students met with Divisional staff to discuss events across the Division (including the Co-op and Career Centre grand opening celebration), varsity team successes, enrollment, name change system impacting students positively, Divisional gathering in the new year and more!
Impact the Student Journey
24 staff across Keele, Glendon and Markham will connect with students during exams, offering support and distributing lollipops and resource cards to those studying on campus between December 4 and 19, to foster a sense of belonging.
In collaboration with Advancement, the Vice Provost Students hosted Schulich Leaders to celebrate their achievements. It was a chance for students to connect with fellow Schulich Leaders, share their experiences and meet members of the university leadership team.
The Vice Provost Students and passionate staff members in the Division hosted a check-in for students at the Vari Hall Kiosk at Keele Campus. Students enjoyed refreshments, were able to ask questions and get guidance as they navigate their academic journey at York.
The Office of the Vice Provost Students and Student Community & Leadership Development hosted an opportunity for faith leaders and student leaders to come together and tour each of the spaces at Keele Campus that student groups access to practice their faith and religious practices.
The York Lions Men's Soccer team were crowned U SPORTS National Champions for the 6th time in program history! Settling for OUA silver, the Lions regrouped and found themselves in an exciting (and snowy!) championship final where they beat the Mount Royal Cougars (1-0) down at Varsity Stadium.
In November, BE YU student success mentor leads hosted a stress and anxiety workshop for students preparing for exams. In collaboration with EUC, participants learned mental health strategies and received complimentary grocery bags to support their well-being.
York celebrated Financial Literacy Month with eight workshops and three peer-to-peer stations across all campuses. Colleagues from across the university designed dynamic programming from cooking classes to budgeting workshops, helping students gain money skills and make informed financial decisions.
In November, BE YU hosted two financial literacy events with Tino Mutsvangwa of CIBC! Students learned budgeting, saving, credit-building and strategies to navigate financial challenges, empowering Black students to build confidence and long-term financial resilience.
BE YU student success mentor leads visited classrooms to share information about Black Excellence at York. The sessions highlighted resources and support for Black student success. We hope to reach more classes soon!
Bringing together collaborative support in a central Keele Campus location, students can now access co-op and career readiness services like coaching, events and peer advising in one office at 1020 DB. This integration will continue to strengthen equitable pathways to co-op and career readiness.
The students enjoyed the calm, creative space. Using Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions, they explored stress, burnout and guilt, then expressed their emotions and boundaries through a relaxing painting activity. The session fostered self-awareness, emotional regulation and a strong sense of community.
The guides strengthen early support for students in distress by outlining clear and inclusive steps and promoting coordinated responses. The guide improves access, well-being, builds belonging and helps community members refer students for timely support.
Since September, SAVY has answered 6,160 student questions. Some of the top topics included information about student financial profiles, tuition and bursaries, student accessibility and the Virtual Well-being Hub.
Create Our Future
The discovery phase was completed in June. The project team sought to understand the complexity of recruitment and admissions operations and to find opportunities to streamline. In the build phase, the new system is being designed to support processes, workflows and to integrate existing systems.
